Salisbury Ladies 1st X1 - Premier Division 1 Match Report

Saturday 3rd November2007

Salisbury: 1

Clifton : 3

Salisbury again played some outstanding hockey and will feel aggrieved at the 3-1 score line against Clifton. Although Clifton scored the first goal, Salisbury managed to continuously counter attack Clifton and presented themselves with goal opportunities. Lisa Lovatt stepped into the ‘D’ and tried to pass the ball to Jenna Tait, who had made a run onto the post.

The pass however deflected off a Clifton defender and the umpire awarded the goal. Clifton’s appeals then saw the second umpire questioning the goal and both umpires then went into a lengthy discussion, with the result going against the home team, who saw their goal disallowed, for apparently being outside the ‘D’, a controversial decision against the home team.
Despite this set back, Salisbury continued to battle and won a short corner, which resulted in Vicki Brewis’s shot being stopped by a Clifton defenders foot on the goal line and winning Salisbury a penalty flick, which Miranda MacTaggart made no mistake in scoring. The score lines level, it was an end to end game with countless opportunities falling to both team but the half time saw them going in level. The second half saw Salisbury at their best, they had a 20 minute period of fast moving, free flowing hockey which impressed the spectators no end.
They piled the pressure on Clifton and again won short corners. One of which saw Vicki Brewis having another goal disallowed for yet another controversial decision and leaving the home team very disheartened. With a score line that should have been 3-1 in Salisbury’s favour they actually found themselves conceding 2 late goal’s which in a reversal of fortune saw Clifton taking the points. Salisbury play Bath Bucc’s on Saturday, an away game with push back at 1100.
