Salisbury Ladies 1st X1 - Premier Division 1 Match Report

Saturday 2nd February 2008

Salisbury: 1

ISCA : 5

Salisbury travelled to Exeter to play ISCA Dragons on their water based pitch, which proved an advantage for the home team. Salisbury struggled to get used to the new surface, finding the pitch extremely bouncy and different to their usual sand based surface. The away team also struggled to maintain what proved to be a very young, fit and talented ISCA team, who had develope from their first encounter at the beginning of the season.

Salisbury defended well in the first part of the game, getting ISCA a little frustrated with their shots on goal either being saved by Nicolette Rugg or deflected wide by a Salisbury defender. But the onslaught continued and it was only a matter of time before the ISCA team scored their first goal with a fantastic shot on goal. They quickly scored a second with a well executed flick from the top of the 'D'.

Salisbury's heads remained high and in parts they looked good on the counter attack, but as in the previous week, their efforts on goal just wouldn't go in. ISCA went on to score a further 2 goals in the first half, leaving a mountain to climb for the Salisbury ladies. They did however come out with a positive attitude and fought to keep ISCA at bay. Salisbury saw themselves with just 10 men after Jenna TAIT was shown a yellow card for a tackle on an ISCA forward. Despite this, Salisbury managed to keep shape and even scored a goal after a superb run from Gemma Vincent, winning herself a one on one with the ISCA keeper and making no mistake with her finish. With the score at 4-1 Salisbury continued to demonstrate that they can play good hockey and had a great team spirit, moving the ball around and supporting each other, but ISCA scored another goal in the dying minutes of the game, with the final score being 5-1.
Salisbury host Gloucester next week with a 1130 push back.
