Salisbury Ladies 1st X1 - Premier Division 1 Match Report

Salisbury: 2

Exe : 3

Salisbury were the hosts to Exe, a team who had beaten them 4-0 at the beginning of the season. Salisbury, feeling confident from their draw last week went on to give Exe a run for their money. Exe were bound to have been confident following the convincing win at the beginning of the season but maybe they weren't prepared for the Salisbury team who have now adapted to the new league. It therefore transpired that the game was end to end and produced some outstanding hockey from both teams. It was exe who scored the first with a fearsome strike from a short corner, but Salisbury immediately fought back and saw Miranda MACTAGGART in front of goal, making no mistake with a lifted ball over the line. This inspired Salisbury, especially as they hadn't managed to score on the away fixture. The play continued to be end to end, creating opportunities for both teams and exceptional saves from both keepers. The half time saw them at 1-1 and all to play for.

It's fair to say that it was Salisbury who were in control for the first 15 minutes of the half, attacking Exe on every opportunity and seeing a fantastic goal from Gemma VINCENT to put the home team in the lead. exe however didn't give the game up and stepped it up, returning the pressure on the Salisbury defence and winning another short corner. The same striker took the shot and again scored a tremendous goal, bringing both teams level. Exe then won another penalty corner and managed the winning goal with a hatrick from the Exe forward, taking the game out of the grasp of a disheartened Salisbury team who believe they deserved at least a point for their performance.
